The story of the show revolves around Lakshmi, who gets married to a millionaire Rishi. Lakshmi is a simple and loving girl. She loses her parents and comes from Punjab to Mumbai to live with her Mama Preetam and Mami Rano and their daughter Neha. She has two younger sisters Shalu and Bani. Rano and Neha hate the three sisters and they try to get Lakshmi married to a local goon, Balwinder. With the play of fate, Lakshmi does not get married to Balwinder and gets in touch with the Oberois. Lakshmi saves Rishi Oberoi’s life when the hotel catches fire. Rishi’s father Virendra Oberoi likes Lakshmi very much and proposes that she get married to Rishi.

Rano wants to get her daughter Neha married to Rishi and gets extremely upset by this proposal. She refuses to allow this but gets intimidated by Neelam Oberoi and agrees to allow Lakshmi to meet Rishi grudgingly. She tries to brainwash Lakshmi against Rishi and his family. She tells Lakshmi that Rishi is a rich, spoilt brat and a womanizer.

Lakshmi agrees to meet Rishi because Virendra reminds her of her own father., but she makes up her mind to say no to the proposal. Rishi also agrees to meet Lakshmi for Virendra’s sake. Rishi takes Lakshmi to his hotel for their first date, where his friends are partying. One of his friends harasses Lakshmi and Rishi saves her. Rishi gets the extra food packed for needy people and they distribute it to them. Lakshmi is touched by Rishi’s gesture and simplicity. On their way back, Balwinder and his friends attack them. Rishi fights the goons and Lakshmi saves him time and again through her presence of mind.

Rishi asks Lakshmi not to tell anything about the accident. Lakshmi and her family go to Rishi’s birthday party where Lakshmi meets the Oberoi family. Rishi and Lakshmi give their consent to getting engaged. Neelam comes to know about the attack and goes to break the engagement. Rishi clarifies that he made Lakshmi promise not to tell anyone about the attack. He tells everyone that if he is alive, it is only because of Lakshmi. Neelam apologizes to Lakshmi and decides to go ahead with the engagement. Balwinder tries to damage Lakshmi’s reputation during the engagement by showing morphed photos but Rishi does not believe him and hands him over to the police. They get engaged in presence of their whole families.
