Anuj Sachdeva on #NationalTechnologyDay: Technology does come up with good things, but I miss those days when we had a lot more time, patience

Human life is incomplete without technology. We cannot imagine our world without lights, fans, phones, vehicles and so on and so forth. National Technology Day on May 11 highlights the contribution of various stalwarts in the field of science and technology. Amid all the celebration and appreciation, one thing also comes into the fore is how we have been using technology. The point is, any sort of advancement becomes either a boon or bane depending on our usage. Anuj Sachdeva shares his opinion on the debate, especially when it comes to phones, internet and social media. The Woh to Hain Albelaa actor talks about it.

“Technology has definitely changed a lot and its progress is uncontrollable. Technology has its own pros and cons. You end up facing the bratroof which is killing your privacy now. If you need to know who is where, and what they are doing, you have to check social media. The good part is that it helps you connect with the whole world around you. But given how things have been happening, all these have affected our collective attention, that has become quite limited,” he says.

Speaking more on the attention span, he gives the example of watching a video. “The first few seconds are very important to figure out if people who are able to gain any views are interested in your videos. Similarly, when there is too much content being generated around in the world you can check them out anytime whenever you get time. But, the problem is that you have nothing else to do but to put your heads down on your phone half of the day. Even when we are having food we are looking at our phones. The addiction of gaining more likes, followers, people, and comments is never-ending. And, you slowly become the slave of social media. It feels strange to see that people these days mourn online, isn’t facing any loss means totally different? One feels that a particular emotion is only able to work or is visible when they post about it,” he adds.

Anuj feels that for many, the virtual world has become more important than the real world. “I think technology definitely comes up with a lot of good things but there are bad things too like I miss those old times of spending hours rolling the film in audio cassette with a pencil to decide which song we want to hear before putting it inside a cassette player to play it. Doing things by yourself at home is all gone because now everything is available online. I won’t say that I’m not a part of this circle, you have to go along with the world. But I have also evolved and been open to the ideas to work so that I don’t lack anywhere. I’ve seen those times from CDs to pen drives and now icloud. I’m happy for the fact that I have seen most of it, and been a witness to the transitions. I miss the amount of patience which we used to have earlier. I enjoyed stepping out for simple things but now that is also not required because you can order online. One good thing is that it saves time and also helps those who are unable to move around much,” he says.
