Anuj Sachdeva congratulates Rishi Sunak and calls it inspirational, but explains why we should not think that this appointment happened in favour of Indians

Rishi Sunak’s appointment as Britain’s third Prime Minister on October 25 is an historic event. The 42-year-old, born to parents having Indian descent, is the first person of colour to have earned this powerful position. His achievement has made India proud. Much like him, there are many other Indians like Parag Agarwal, CEO of Twitter, Satyda Nadela, Microsoft, Executive Chairman and CEO of Microsoft, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, and others who have been making the country proud worldwide. Actor Anuj Sachdeva shares his thoughts on Sunak’s glory and why he thinks this should be perceived differently.

“Rishi Sunak’s appointment as PM of UK is not supposedly taken in favour of Indians to be honest. The reason being in the past, he has taken so many steps not in favour of the immigrants but has always tried to favour London or the United Kingdom on the whole. Yes, he happens to be an Asian which is definitely a big thing as this is for the first time someone non-white has this position in the UK. At the same time I believe it’s not justified to believe that since he is a brown skin he will be favouring all the Indians. It’s just the thought of people of how it’s going to be,” he says.

Looking back in history, Anuj talks about independent India. “When the Britishers were ruling India, I think a lot of Indians in the hierarchy and rank were hired by the former. So this phenomenon is not new. Keeping that in mind being brown skin doesn’t mean that he will take care of the Indians or the Asians. He will only be thinking about how the economy of the UK will get better in the future,” he adds.

The actor goes on to add another side to this story. “We must also not forget that he is someone who has replaced the first candidate Liz Truss, who resigned given the present economic crisis of the country. And, Sunak has vouched to look into the situation and find a solution to it for the better. So, he is not the elected Prime Minister but the selected one. On the other hand, it’s a remarkable thing that anyone can be the president or prime minister of a region, even someone from a different descent. This actually opens the gates for people to think beyond the box and break all the limits that have been created for the last so many years,” Anuj shares.
