Celebrity Wedding and dance Choreographer Sumit Khetan is winning a lot of awards!

Sumit Khetan is a well-known artistic director- luxury wedding choreographer and special entry expert in Mumbai. As a kid, he was always fond of dancing. He talks about his journey so far.

“As a kid, I was excited about dancing, so weddings were interesting for me. I learned everybody else’s choreography and used to love dancing and performing on stage. But, I never knew that one day it is going to be my profession. I don’t even know when it just suddenly happened that I started teaching families for different functions. And when I started teaching families, I realised that the idea is to make each member of the family feel like a celebrity on stage. Can’t describe the high I get watching families performing like stars on stage,” he says.

Sumit began his career with the Shiamak Davar’s Dance Company. Through the same he got opportunities to be a part of Filmfare, Stardust etc.

“There I met almost everyone from the film industry as far as celebrities are concerned. But yes, definitely when I moved out of Shiamak’s and started working independently my initial celebrities were from Colors TV and my first project was ‘Rang De Colors’. While there, I have choreographed Late. Pratyusha Banerjee, Shashank Vyas, Mouni Roy, Rashami Desai, Sargun Mehta, Nandish Sandhu, and a lot more, who used to work in different shows on the channel. My first biggest celebrity was Ayushmann Khurrana. Getting an opportunity to choreograph him was an amazing experience,” he shares.

Sumit has also choreographed the likes of Mouni Roy, Gauhar Khan and Rithvik Dhanjani. All of them are good dancers.

“Choreographing for Mouni Roy, Gauahar Khan, and Rithvik Dhanjani has been a super fun experience.
He was recently a part of the ICWF- GIWA awards. It is an International Convention of the wedding fraternity. And in ICWF they have the Giwa Awards, which are called the Great Indian Wedding Awards, where the entire wedding fraternity from different cities are present.

“There are different vendors, different talents, different event companies, wedding planners, decorators, photographers, MCs, choreographers, everybody comes on board, and whatever work they have done, they kind of submit their work there, and then there is a jury who judges their talent. This year at Giwa ICWF 2022, we won seven different awards for different categories— three gold, three silver, and one bronze,” he sounds happy and proud.

Awards are important. It does motivate you and also helps you to reach out to a larger audience. “For me, awards are about trying to see where exactly I stand. The main reason why you go to any of these wedding conferences or all these gatherings where all these people come together. The idea is to learn and network with the best. And definitely, when you get the award, you feel happy and proud,” he smiles.
