Hemant Chaddha: Every Indian should understand that you are Indian first religion comes later

With ‘The Kashmir Files’ being loved all over, actor Hemant Chaddha says that it is important to understand the value of peace and life. The actor adds that one should be aware of movements which spread disharmony and curtail them.
“We should know the external forces trying to break India and to break India- they try to break Indians by radicalising factions. Naxal or Maoist movements, Khalistani movement, or Islamist separatist movement – all are externally funded – all Indians should become aware of these so as not to fall for their propaganda. India is secular in its nature and we should keep its multicultural harmonious tolerant fabric intact,” he says.
In fact, he adds that he would like to be part of projects that encourage this thought. “As an actor, I would love to work on content that is patriotic and nationalistic which will instill national and cultural pride in people for being Indian. Content that will inspire all of us to again build what we were proud of and that is unity in diversity.”
He adds, “Films and shows should focus on contributing to nation-building as this is a significant medium to influence society. We need content that will create social harmony. Content that shows the threats and methods to counter them. Content that will inspire people to build the nation.”
Talking about the film, he says that Kashmir wasn’t always like this. “If you see Kashmir before the 1980s, it was a harmonious place where Hindus and Muslims lived peacefully. The problems start when radicalisation happens. And that can happen to anyone irrespective of their faith. There are forces internal and external that play with a common man’s psychology and drives them to become pawns of their agenda.”
