Known for their use of social media to spread awareness around several issues, this time Mumbai Police has started the #LetsNotNormaliseMisogyny campaign. Using misogynistic dialogues and scenes from Bollywood films, the idea is to give out the message that women deserve respect, and what kind of language and behaviour aren’t accepted against them. The campaign has received acceptance and support from all quarters, including actors. Prateik Chaudhury, who will be seen next in Sindoor Ki Keemat, also extends support.
“Kudos to Mumbai Police for coming up with such a campaign. I hope they keep posting such content and make people, especially the social media users aware. It really makes a difference,” says the actor.
Highlighting how there are “many people who think of misogyny as entertainment”, Prateik feels it is time that approach is corrected for good.
“There are many scenes and dialogues in certain films that are not at all acceptable. I have heard this dialogue in movies and also in the real world ‘kya maal hai’. This is really not acceptable and extremely shameful to address women as ‘maal’, ‘item’ and what not. Hope after this initiative by Mumbai Police, we will be able to witness some difference in our society,” he adds.
