Sharad Malhotra – I think a star is someone who has a commercial value attached to him or her

Sharad Malhotra, who is currently seen in “Naagin 5”, believes in the power of gratitude. With no starry tantrums or high-headedness, he is one of the most humble and down-to-earth actors that you will see in today’s time. If you go through any of his social media posts, he will always be found thanking his fans for their love, and that’s one of the reasons his fans are increasing by the day. He said that the audience should be acknowledged for all the admiration and appreciation they have for an actor.

“I think it comes very organically to me. For me, it’s all about gratitude, the power of gratitude is what I truly believe in and I keep talking about it. I think if the fans and viewers love you and appreciate you for your work then you need to thank them for it. It’s basic courtesy and you need to thank people who love you and who appreciate you and that’s how I also treat my staff. So I feel, be it an actor or a star, you need to thank the viewers for it,” the “Kasam Tere Pyaar Ki” actor said.

“You are where you are because of them, and this goes for any and every celebrity, that if the audiences are watching you on the television or the celluloid, you are not paying them for it, it’s very unconditional, there is no monetary exchange, there is no materialistic exchange, its pure emotions, so if they are investing their emotions in you and your craft, you need to thank them for it,” he added.

The “Muskaan” and Naagin actor has been in the industry for over 15 years now, so when asked what difference he sees between an actor and a star he confessed that a star is someone whom the audience would like to imitate.

“I think a star is someone who has a commercial value attached to him or her, I am talking about the price, their value is much more than that of an actor. An actor has to completely mold himself, based on his character, be it his style, his body language, his voice modulation, etc., but a star does not have to be that particular character, he has to just be himself. A star will probably have his style, his charm, his aura, and people like to copy a star, so a star is much different compared to an actor,” he said.

“An actor probably could be a star in the longer run, but a star might not be a great actor. In today’s time, people want to see a star, they want to see the way he talks, the way he walks, etc., and when it comes to an actor, he can be a damn good actor but probably the audience will just appreciate them and move on. That’s the difference I see in a star and an actor. Not taking away all the respect and love from an actor, I believe that you have to be very true to the character that you have been given but it’s the public that makes you a star. You could be a brilliant actor, but you might not be a star for them,” the “Banoo Main Teri Dulhann” actor added.

He also revealed that though he considered Amitabh Bachchan as his favorite star, over the years his inclination has moved towards the Badshah of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan.

“I used to love Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, and I still do, he is a megastar, but over the years it moved to Shah Rukh Khan. He is a star because he has that amazing aura and that amazing style. I think the way he walks, the way he talks, he has that very inimitable style and he has got that swag which makes him a star. So it’s him and in Hollywood, it’s Johnny Depp. He is extremely charming, he has this aura, he has this amazing style. These people have their distinct style and that is what the audience loves, that is what the audience loves to copy,” Sharad concluded.
