Sneha Namanandi on Women’s Day: Rather than trying to fit a woman into a man’s world, let’s create a world where the masculine and feminine have equal roles to play

March 8 celebrated globally as International Women’s Day has a huge significance. The day recognises and celebrates the contribution of the female force in our lives and society. Actor-entrepreneur Sneha Namanandi speaks on the significance of the occasion, and what the day means to her.

“Women’s day is a day to appreciate the accomplishments and sacrifices a woman makes in her life. For me, I celebrate everyday things like buying a coffee, makeup, and going for shopping. Rather than trying to fit a woman into a man’s world, we must create a world where the masculine and feminine have an equal role to play,” she says.

About celebrating womanhood and what makes her feel important as a woman, Sneha adds, “I believe it’s a privilege being a woman, to be born out of a woman and have the power to bear a child. I have witnessed very independent and strong women in my family. From My grandmother to my mother to my aunt.If I know of gentleness, compassion and strength,it is because of these women in my life.We as women like to make things rather than break them. The art of not giving up easily has been gifted to me by the women in my family. I am proud of the family I belong to.”

On whether she thinks a day to celebrate womanhood is necessary, while men do also have a day but are not much remembered, Sneha explains her point of view.

“I think the sacrifices and the gentleness a woman brings into this world cannot be compared to anything. All I am saying is acknowledge it each day. We are women every day, not on a particular day. So let’s celebrate womanhood every day. I understand the pressure men go through in our society being men. It’s not an easy thing to constantly keep thinking about career, family etc until they make it,” she says.
