Vaishnavi Ganatra on World Book Day: I do believe that something very magical can happen when you read a good book

April 23 is World Book Day or International Day of the Book or World Book and Copyright Day. Celebrated all across the globe, the day creates awareness around reading and also draws attention towards book publishing and copyright. Vaishnavi Ganatra is a self-confessed book lover. She reads a lot and has a good collection at home. The Woh Toh Hai Albela actor talks about books that have influenced and inspired her to live a better life. She also shares her opinion on how the practice of reading books has been abandoned by many in today’s world of mobile phones and the internet.

“I do believe that something very magical can happen when you read a good book. It is one of the most marvelous adventures a person can have. In this day and age, sadly many people don’t really prefer reading hard copies of books or even books in general. There are very few people who actually show interest in reading. People are glued to their phones and are more directed toward social media and the virtual world rather than spending time on the beauty and intricacy of a beautiful fiction or non-fiction filled with magic of words,” she says.
Vaishnavi feels that times have changed and people definitely have their own choices and opinions. However, she reiterates that reading is magical and therefore nobody should miss it.

“If not hard copies, we have the option of online books too. Trust me, it is an amazing feeling to get lost into the author’s imaginary world and see things from their perspective. Books broaden our mindsets and make us feel new things that we probably didn’t even know we could feel,” she adds.

It’s her love for books that takes her to libraries to look for books that she likes. This has been a habit since school days. Now, due to her work schedule it has become a little difficult for her to take out time and read as many books as she would want to read.

“But I do wish to grab a new and exciting book very soon! A few months ago, I completed reading the ‘Shiva Trilogy’ by Amish Tripathi. What can I say about that book? It’s absolutely remarkable! I am in awe of how beautifully all the incidents have been described. This trilogy has inspired me in a lot of ways, and honourable leadership is my first learning from it. Lord Shiva has qualities like foresightedness, loyalty, team spirit and empathy which ultimately make him an extraordinary leader who sets an example before everyone. It throws light on his journey from an ordinary tribal leader to the Neelkanth who faces many personal and worldly problems, and finally overcomes them all. He thought about every single person’s benefit and welfare of the society. This book taught me to believe in good, work for good and work hard to get better! Lord Shiva’s desire to conquer the wrong thoughts gave me the confidence to win in life. I admire Amish Tripathi as a writer. I wish to read more books by him,” she ends.
